Sailing through the night

There are a few seminal moments in a new sailor’s life. Leaving the dock. Dropping the anchor. Surviving your first storm. Making a night passage.

We have been slowly ticking off these “firsts.” Each one raises a new set of anxiety and worries, but also an even more powerful sense of awe and excitement.

This tension is part of why we are pursing this life. Back in Chicago, our life was very nice. Good jobs. Decent pay. A good house. Life was easy, but it was also rather dull. We existed in this casual flow from day to day that largely failed to excite the sense.

We want the tension. Right now, we crave the highs and the lows. Life in full.

Approaching our first night sail feels like a massive hurdle to clear.

So, now we embrace the tension and push forward into the night.

Much love,

Kirstin & Andy
