One of the big logistical pieces of pushing forward with Magic Dragon is selling our power boat, Alpha Waves. Before we can sell our first boat, we have to get her back into the water and to her slip.

We take in the sights and sounds of Chicago during a staycation for Kirstin’s Birthday! We also offer an update on the refitting of Magic Dragon.

Why would we choose a 1980 Gulfstar 50 cc ketch as the boat that will carry us over the horizon in search of the next great adventure?

Well, the layout had a lot to do with it!

We took a four-day trip to Port Charlotte, Florida to begin the refit of Magic Dragon. Of course, the boat had some surprises for us.

Kirstin and I grew up in landlocked Missouri, so how exactly did we fall in love with the water? 

Kirstin and I try to take time at the end of each year to recharge our batteries. Just the two of us, seeking refuge from the constant demands of life, and there’s nothing better than a beautiful beach and the sound of the ocean to melt away stress and rejuvenate our minds.

We flew back to Chicago and waited for the survey results. The report confirmed our thoughts and opinion on the day of the survey, and we had a decision to make. 

Having decided to get a boat and chase after new horizons – literally and figuratively – we needed to figure out exactly what boat we wanted.

You may be asking yourself, what would prompt two people in the prime of their careers to buy a boat and sail away over the horizon? 

Frankly, two years ago, we would have asked the same question.
